Making a T-shirt Workshop

Ever wondered how t-shirts are made in our screen printing studio?  We will show you the step by step process during this interactive workshop experience.  From burning a screen in our darkroom to printing your own cool t-shirt to wear home the same day, try screen printing for a day! Each participant will get to choose either a t-shirt or a bag to print.

Vector Workshop

Dates: Saturday, August 31

Time: 1:00pm-3:00pm

Cost: Free for members, $20 for non-members

Bring your own computer if possible. This is an introduction to creating vector art in Inkscape. These scalable designs can be used as logos for business or websites, but more importantly they are used in conjunction with the laser cutters, CNC routers, and silk screening to make some of the coolest things to come out of the Hub. This workshop is a prerequisite for our laser class and several other classes at the Hub!

Intro to Pottery

Dates: August 6, 13, 20, 27

Time: 5:30-7:30pm

Cost: Free for members, $60 for non-members

No experience required. Get started working in our ceramics studio with this introduction to ceramics class. This class will cover basic handbuilding techniques for beginning pottery (with an introduction to the wheel in the final week). Become a member and use the studio outside of class time to practice your skills!

Clay costs $40 per 25 bag and is not included in the class fee.

Welding Class 101

Dates: Aug 7,14,21,28

Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm

Cost: $20 for members, $ 90 for non-members

This class is set up to allow the individual the opportunity to learn about welding and if it’s something they might enjoy perusing further. We will learn the basics of welding in this class using the MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and Stick welding process. You can choose to focus on both or one of the processes we offer. This is a hands on class and the goal is for students to be completing proficient weld joints by the end of week 4.

Drop-In Pottery

Every Thursday night in August is “Drop-In Pottery Making”. In order to accommodate busy schedules, we are offering a new class style that requires no long-term commitment. Come for one class or as often as you can make it. Each session will include a demo on pottery techniques attendees are interested in learning. Beginner through advanced levels are welcome to attend. Each night participants can choose up to 2 items to paint with underglaze and have fired in our kiln.

The cost is nightly and covers materials per session.

Laser 101 Class

Learn to use the Maker’s dream tool to cut, etch and mark intricate, detailed graphics on wood and create 3D objects. In this introductory class, you’ll learn how to: create and prep files for the laser, perform routine maintenance and safety practices, unleash your imagination with free graphics software, create simple, yet elegant projects like wooden coasters, etched pub glasses, wooden boxes, leather bracelets, paper invitations, linoleum or wood block stamps.

CNC Routers 101: Learn CAD with VCarve Pro

Dates: August 12,19,26

Time: 5:30-8:00pm

In this introductory 3 week class you’ll learn about CNC routers and the kinds of projects you can create with them. CNCs can be used with a variety of different materials to create unique pieces, perfect fit marquetry and inlays, and repeatable products using 2D and 2.5D design. We’ll hone in on how to use Vectric VCarve Pro, the premier software for working with any CNC Router and provide you with a Makerspace license for your computer so that you can work on your files away from the Hub.

CNC 103: Large Projects on the EZ Router

Intro to Metals and Jewelry with Guest Artist Myriam Saavedra

Interested in learning the knitty gritty basics of jewelry fabrication and design? Perfect for beginners, this class will introduce students to the use of hand tools to create their own jewelry pieces using cold connections. Each class will go over a new technique with practice samples as students design and execute their final pieces by the end of the session.

Learn to start working with clay in our ceramics studio. This class will introduce students to basic hand building techniques–pinch, coil, and slab and how to use glazes in our studio to decorate and finish their pieces for firings in our kiln. There will also be an introduction to the basics of getting started on the potter’s wheel– then it’s up to you to put in your 10,000 hours to master it! Join the Innovation Hub today to get the most out of our pottery studio, allowing you to practice your new skills on your own time.

You will learn every step of the process so that you can print on your own at the Hub! Here’s what we’ll cover: emulsifying and burning designs onto screens, plastisol ink use, printing on apparel and paper, names and uses of basic equipment in the studio, names and uses of inks and cleaning products in our studio.

Prerequisite: CNC 101 or proficiency with Vectric VCarve Pro software.

In this class, you will put your new Vectric VCarve Pro skills to the test as we learn to machine our designs using the Shapeoko CNC routers. Students will learn how to set up the CNC, secure stock material, select bits, and use a controller to send their files to the machine. Projects will include making a valet tray and a box.

Basic Pen Turning Workshop

Dates: Saturday, September 7

Time: 12:00am-4:00pm

Cost: $25 for members and non-members

In this workshop, we will detail the basic steps for the preparation, turning and finishing of a slimline pen. You will begin with a blank piece of wood and leave with a stylish ballpoint pen that is yours to take with you. Each participant will have access to an individual lathe, appropriate safety equipment, necessary turning tools and an experienced mentor in constant attendance. Success with safety are the primary concerns of the instructor and assistants.

Due to the diverse number of classes, workshops, summer camps and field trips we offer, we have created a cancellation policy that gives us an opportunity to fill our schedule. You may cancel by phone or by sending an email to sales@arhub.org. If you have to cancel your upcoming class, workshop, field trip or summer camp registration refunds will be given as follows: Cancellations made 30 days or more in advance of the event date will receive a 100% refund, cancellations made 15-30 days in advance of the event date will receive a 50% refund, cancellations made 0-14 days within the event date will not receive any type of refund.
