Saw-tastic Workshop

Two options to choose from:

This workshop will cover basic woodshop safety as well as basic tool training. We will focus on how to safely operate a table saw, miter saw, and band saw. We will also cover their uses and how to know which tool is best for the job! This workshop is perfect for first-time woodworkers.

Making a T-shirt Workshop

Date: Saturday, April 6

Time: 10:30am-12:30pm

Cost: $10 for members, for $20 for non-members

Ever wondered how t-shirts are made in our screen printing studio?  We will show you the step by step process during this interactive workshop experience.  From burning a screen in our darkroom to printing your own cool t-shirt to wear home the same day, try screen printing for a day! Each participant will get to choose either a t-shirt or a bag to print.

Vector Workshop

Date: Saturday, April 6

Time: 1:30pm-4:00pm

Cost: Free for members, $20 for non-members

Bring your own computer if possible. This is an introduction to creating vector art in Inkscape. These scalable designs can be used as logos for business or websites, but more importantly, they are used in conjunction with the laser cutters, CNC routers, and silk screening to make some of the coolest things to come out of the Hub. This workshop is a prerequisite for our laser class and several other classes at the Hub!  Please download the free Inkscape software before coming to this workshop.

3D Printing Workshop

Date: Wednesday, April 10

Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Cost: Free for members, $20 for non-members

Learn to use the 3D printers! This workshop starts with an introduction to Cura and Mesh Mixer; next you will learn how to load filament, lay out jobs, and basic troubleshooting for when your prints decide to fail spectacularly.

Laser 101

Date: Saturdays, April 13, April 27, May 4

Time: 1:00-4:00pm

Cost: $ 10 for members, $80 for non-members

Learn to use the Maker’s dream tool to cut, etch and mark intricate, detailed graphics on wood and create 3D objects. In this introductory class, you’ll learn how to: create and prep files for the laser, perform routine maintenance and safety practices, unleash your imagination with free graphics software, create simple, yet elegant projects like wooden coasters, etched pub glasses, wooden boxes, leather bracelets, paper invitations, linoleum or wood block stamps.

Graphic Design: Pop Art

CNC Routers 102: Learning CNC Basics on the Shapeoko

Date: Mondays, April 8, April 15, April 22, April 29

Time: 5:30-7:30pm

Cost: $20 for members, $80 for non-members

Ages: 18+

Prerequisite: CNC 101 or proficiency with Vectric VCarve Pro software.

In this class, you will put your new Vectric VCarve Pro skills to the test as we learn to machine our designs using the Shapeoko CNC routers. Students will learn how to set up the CNC, secure stock material, select bits, and use a controller to send their files to the machine. Projects will include making a valet tray and a box.

Surface Design for Pottery

Date: Mondays, April 8, April 15, April 22, April 29

Date: 5:30-7:00pm

Age: 18+

Cost: $10 for members, $70 for non-members (clay included)

No experience required. This class will cover a variety of ways to apply designs to the surface of clay pieces. We will practice decoration techniques like slip trailing, scraffito, mishima, wax resist, image transfer, and then explore combining these for more complex patterns and surfaces on your pottery. We will practice decoration techniques on simple slabs, but students are encouraged to apply them to other forms, as well.

Leather Earring Workshop

Date: Friday, April 26

Time: 5:30-7:30pm

Cost: $25

Bring your fav wine and some of your best gal pals for the Innovation Hub’s second leather earring workshop! Tools and leathers will be provided along with earring backs, which will all be silver plate to avoid any metal allergy issues. Each person will leave with 3 pairs of leather earrings they craft themselves using a fun assortment of curated leathers from Bryant’s personal collection. Bryant will be present to help anyone needing a hand and to walk through the process of making your very own leather earrings.
