Making a T-shirt Workshop

Ever wondered how t-shirts are made in our screen printing studio?  We will show you the step by step process during this interactive workshop experience.  From burning a screen in our darkroom to printing your own cool t-shirt to wear home the same day, try screen printing for a day! Each participant will get to choose either a t-shirt or a bag to print.

Screen Printing 101

Dates: July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Aug 5

This class will focus on the digital and technical process of screen printing. It is the perfect class to take if you are itching to make your own shirts and you want to become a certified user of our screen printing studio. You will learn some basic tools in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to turn logos, drawings, or ideas into printable 1 color designs. Next, learn how to take your one color designs and print them onto cotton based fabrics and paper. You will learn every step of the process so that you can design and print on your own at the Hub. Here’s what we’ll cover: emulsifying and burning designs onto screens, plastisol ink use, printing on apparel and paper, names and uses of basic equipment in the studio, names and uses of inks and cleaning products in our studio. This class focuses on the software skills and techniques needed to successfully design your projects and set them up for machining. Demonstrations of the equipment will be shown, but hands-on projects are reserved for follow-up classes and workshops. We will design projects that you can machine in CNC Routers 102: Hands-on with the Shapeoko.

3D Printing Workshop

Learn to use the 3D printers! It starts with an introduction to Cura and Mesh Mixer; next you will learn how to load filament, lay out jobs, and basic troubleshooting for when your prints decide to fail spectacularly.

Intro to Pottery

No experience required. Get started working in our ceramics studio with this introduction to ceramics class. This class will cover basic hand building techniques for beginning pottery. You will learn how to use the equipment and tools in our ceramics studio to make pottery forms on your own.

Intro to Relief Printmaking

Dates: July 10,17,24,31

Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm

Cost: $40 for members, $100 for non-members

Learn the basics of relief printmaking at the Innovation Hub. We’ll cover how to use tools to carve on different surfaces, inking techniques, printmaking composition, two color printing, and how to use the Hub’s printing press to create art prints. All tools and materials will be provided.

Welding Class 101

Dates: July 10,17,24,31

Time: 5:30pm-7:30pm

Cost: $20 for members, $ 90 for non-members

This class is set up to allow the individual the opportunity to learn about welding and if it’s something they might enjoy perusing further. We will learn the basics of welding in this class using the MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and Stick welding process. You can choose to focus on both or one of the processes we offer. This is a hands on class and the goal is for students to be completing proficient weld joints by the end of week 4.

Photoshop Workshop

In this introductory Adobe Photoshop class, students will learn how to edit brightness and contrast, and learn how to sharpen and blur images. Students will also learn how to separate the subject from the background and some standard background manipulation techniques.

This workshop will cover basic woodshop safety as well as basic tool training. We will focus on how to safely operate a table saw, miter saw, and band saw. We will also cover their uses and how to know which tool is best for the job! This workshop is perfect for first-time woodworkers.

CNC Routers 101: Learn CAD with VCarve Pro

Prerequisite: Vector workshop or proficiency in vector, strongly recommend laser class.

In this introductory 3 week class you’ll learn about CNC routers and the kinds of projects you can create with them. CNCs can be used with a variety of different materials to create unique pieces, perfect fit marquetry and inlays, and repeatable products using 2D and 2.5D design. We’ll hone in on how to use Vectric VCarve Pro, the premier software for working with any CNC Router and provide you with a Makerspace license for your computer so that you can work on your files away from the Hub.

CNC 102: Learning CNC Basics on the Shapeoko

Prerequisite: CNC 101 or proficiency with Vectric VCarve Pro software.

In this class, you will put your new Vectric VCarve Pro skills to the test as we learn to machine our designs using the Shapeoko CNC routers. Students will learn how to set up the CNC, secure stock material, select bits, and use a controller to send their files to the machine. Projects will include making a valet tray and a box.

Vector Workshop

Dates: Saturday, August 3

Time: 1:30pm-4:00pm

Bring your own computer if possible. This is an introduction to creating vector art in Inkscape. These scalable designs can be used as logos for business or websites, but more importantly they are used in conjunction with the laser cutters, CNC routers, and silk screening to make some of the coolest things to come out of the Hub. This workshop is a prerequisite for our laser class and several other classes at the Hub!

In this 4 week class, students will learn 8 basic design principles and will learn to work in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create unique pop art designs. This class is recommended for students who are already comfortable using basic computer applications.

Every Thursday night in August is “Drop-In Pottery Making”. In order to accommodate busy schedules, we are offering a new class style that requires no long-term commitment. Come for one class or as often as you can make it. Each session will include a demo on pottery techniques attendees are interested in learning. Beginner through advanced levels are welcome to attend. Each night participants can choose up to 2 items to paint with underglaze and have fired in our kiln.

The cost is nightly and covers materials per session.

Laser 101 Class

In this introductory class, you’ll learn how to: create and prep files for the laser, perform routine maintenance and safety practices, unleash your imagination with free graphics software, create simple, yet elegant projects like wooden coasters, etched pub glasses, wooden boxes, leather bracelets, paper invitations, linoleum or wood block stamps.
