Screen Printing 101

Get started printing T-shirts and more in our screen-printing studio. Learn to design simple vectors, print a transparency, prepare a screen, and print your design onto t-shirts, tote bags, or posters. At the end of the class, each student will be able to take a studio assessment to gain access to the Hub screenprinting studio with a membership.

Learn to Turn

You will walk away from this class with a multitude of knowledge and several finished pieces that you can take home and enjoy for years to come such as a wooden pen, bowls, and other household items. Learn the basic concepts and techniques of throwing pottery on a wheel and get a little practice with an experienced potter ready with tips to help. If you discover your love for mud, consider signing up for Wheel Throwing 101 and becoming a member to gain access to the studio so you can practice regularly.

Vector Design

An important step in learning how to use several of our makerspace tools involves uploading a vector design for your masterpiece to come to life. This workshop is your chance to learn how to create a vector using the free vector design Inkscape software. We cannot wait for you to unlock your creativity and show off your skills! Please bring your own laptop, if possible.

3D Printing

Learn how 3D printers work and how to use them. We’ll start by finding printable models from online 3D repositories like Thingiverse. Then, put them into Cura to slice (prepare) them for printing. Then you will learn how to load filament, lay out jobs, and basic troubleshooting tips for when your prints decide to fail spectacularly.

Learn to prepare tools and clay and start making beautiful creations on the wheel. Bring your apron and be ready to get a little dirt under your fingernails! At the end of this class, participants will be ready to take the assessment and gain full access to the studio with a membership. We recommend becoming a member of the Hub so that you can have access to the studio outside of class time to practice skills learned during the class.

Sewing 101

We are ecstatic to offer our first sewing class at The Innovation Hub! Come join us for this 4-week course in the basics of sewing! This group class starts at the very beginning with how to operate a sewing machine, including threading the machine, tension, and common stitches. By the end of the 4-week course, you will have made several items including a tote bag and pants with an elastic waistband. During the class, you will advance from basic sewing machine operation to sewing your first garment. Fabric and thread are provided, but students should feel free to purchase fabric of their own!

Do you love handbuilding with clay, and are you ready to explore the next step in your ceramic adventure? Join us for this two-day, intermediate workshop and learn how to build a unique beautiful ceramic basket that will be the highlight of your home decor! Students will learn how to prepare, shape, and finish soft slabs to create a uniquely shaped vessel with feet and handles that can be used as a basket or planter. A variety of surface decoration and underglaze techniques will be explored to customize your creation. Students should have prior hand-building experience and a basic understanding of clay properties and attachment methods.

Experimental Ceramic Surface Design

Join us as we explore a variety of techniques to experiment on both greenware and bisquefired test tiles, such as impressing, incising, stamping, sprigging, masking/stenciling, sgraffito, inlay, wax resist, and a variety of fun underglaze applications. This workshop is perfect for those who are already familiar with ceramics but want to try something new to spice up their designs.

Refund policies for our classes and workshops: Due to the diverse number of classes, workshops, summer camps, and field trips we offer, we have created a cancellation policy that gives us an opportunity to fill our schedule. You may cancel by phone or by sending an email to education@arhub.org. If you have to cancel your upcoming class, private instruction session, workshop, field trip, or summer camp registration, refunds will be given as follows: Cancellations made 30 days or more in advance of the event date will receive a 100% refund, cancellations made 15-30 days in advance of the event date will receive a 50% refund, cancellations made 0-14 days within the event date will not receive any type of refund.
